Cyberinfostructure

I think I'll start putting chapters together on a book about cyberinfo/infrastructure. But first, an outline....still thinking...

Some additional book ideas

I have a couple of thoughts swimming around my head that I'd like to write about, some of which could be interesting in thought experiments and possibliy ficticious settings. Most of these are in the form of questions that could be explored...maybe a chapter each...

Network, wireless and geolocation:
  • How far can lcoation aware information take us?
  • What happens when you have 'ephemeral' ad-hoc networks?
  • What's the world like with billions of nodes on the network?

Video/Audio:
  • Wireless video? Why and when?
  • Online HDTV?
  • When does the convergence converge?
  • Where do all the bits go -- what happens when your hard drive crashes?
Education/Workforce:
  • How do we make math and sciences more appealing?
  • How do you entice people to complete advanced degrees?
  • What does a 2010 software development team look like?
  • How do social networks impact the advancement of innovation?
Search/IR/RSS/Blogs
  • Speaking of convergence, where are all of the RSS/blog/news aggregation/portals/search technologies going? Are these complementary or competitive? How can they be used effectively?
  • How do you know when to use which search engine/tool?
  • Can you create effective derivative information retrieval and notification systems from services such as Google?

I think the most promising for trying to stretch the imagination is the idea of the billion node, location aware ephemeral networked world.

Why another blog?

This is a blog about books and book ideas. I'd like to amp up my writing and eventually actually write a book. Part of that is about generating ideas and following them by writing about them.

This doesn't have to be about any particular genre of books, although the likely contributions from me will be in the following categories:

  • Science Fiction
  • Fantasy
  • Computer/Technical
  • Science
And, although I do enjoy a good mystery now and again, I'm not expecting to fill a niche there, but I won't write it out just yet.

I'm also open to thinking and writing about short stories and or articles that could be used in various publications.

I intend to invite others into this conversation as contributors, if you are interested, let me know.
